把一个从句变成名词短语，使它能放在介词之后或充当较长的主语。英语不允许介词直接接 that 从句，所以要在中间加入 the fact。 常见陷阱：介词后不能直接接 that：upset by that nobody called ✗, upset by the fact that nobody called ✓。
例句
The fact that he apologized changed nothing.
他道了歉，这一事实改变不了什么。
She was upset by the fact that nobody called.
她因为没人打电话而难过。
We cannot ignore the fact that costs are rising.
我们不能无视成本正在上涨的事实。
Despite the fact that it rained, we went.
