表示想要避免的事情。lest 之后，动词用不带变化的原形，或与 should 连用，因为这是虚拟语气的残留形式。for fear that 是更好用的变体，搭配 might 或 would。两者本身都已带有否定意义，不要再加 not。 常见错误：lest 之后不加 not：lest he does not forget ✗, lest he forget ✓。
