What should an English beginner learn first?

Beginners do not need to master the entire IPA chart or hundreds of rules before starting. Begin with a short A1 lesson, learn greetings and introductions, then listen and repeat each sentence. Learning in context makes the purpose of every new word immediately clear.

Next, practise pronunciation while building vocabulary by topic. Once a small set of words feels familiar, learn grammar through short sentence patterns: word order, verbs, plurals and articles. This helps you make correct sentences without getting buried in theory.

At the end of each learning cycle, listen to a conversation at your level and complete mixed practice to find weak areas. English RankUp connects lessons, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, listening and review into one clear routine you can follow for 15 minutes each day.

Frequently asked questions

?Which level should a beginner start at?

If you have no foundation, start at A1. It introduces the most basic vocabulary, sentence patterns and everyday communication.

?How long does it take to learn English from scratch?

At 15 minutes a day, most learners reach A1 (basic communication) in about 2–3 months. Consistency matters more than long cramming sessions.

?Is English hard to learn?

English has pronunciation, verb tenses, plurals and sentence patterns to practise, but beginners do not need to learn everything at once. Short steps and regular review make progress manageable.

?How many words do I need to start?

You don't need thousands of words right away. The ~150 words of A1 are enough to greet people, introduce yourself and handle basic everyday situations.

?Is learning on English RankUp free?
