Phần lớn trạng từ dựng bằng cách thêm -ly vào tính từ: slow thành slowly, careful thành carefully. Tận cùng phụ âm cộng y thì đổi thành -ily: easy thành easily. Bất quy tắc: good thành well, fast và hard giữ nguyên. Bẫy thường gặp: Đừng lẫn tính từ với trạng từ: He drives careful ✗, He drives carefully ✓. Và hardly KHÔNG phải trạng từ của hard — nó nghĩa là hầu như không.
