many và a few đi với danh từ đếm được số nhiều. much và a little đi với danh từ không đếm được. a lot of dùng được cho cả hai và tự nhiên nhất trong câu khẳng định. much thường chỉ dùng ở câu phủ định và câu hỏi. Bẫy thường gặp: Câu khẳng định thường không dùng much: I have much time ✗, I have a lot of time ✓.
