Phần lớn động từ cho hai tân ngữ đi được cả hai lối: give her the book hoặc give the book to her. Nhưng explain, describe, suggest, mention, announce, introduce CHỈ đi lối thứ hai, luôn cần to. Còn khi tân ngữ trực tiếp là đại từ thì bắt buộc lối thứ hai. Bẫy thường gặp: explain và describe luôn cần to: explain me the rule ✗, explain the rule to me ✓.
