Sau as if và as though, dùng thì thường khi điều so sánh có thể đúng, và lùi một thì khi điều đó trái thực tế. Cũng dùng được as if cộng to V0 sau seem và look. Đây là chỗ duy nhất mà thì đánh dấu độ thật chứ không đánh dấu thời gian. Bẫy thường gặp: Điều trái thực tế thì lùi thì: He talks as though he owns the place khi ông ta không sở hữu là lệch giọng; as though he owned ✓.
